A visit to El Orman Orphanage: Looking through their eyes.
July 17, 2017
Al Orman orphanage in 13 Dr Mahrouki Street Agouza, was set up in 1993 to care for girls and boys whose families could no longer look after them. Today, the orphanage has 7 boys aged 8-10 and 10 girls aged 16-27. As part of the holy month of Ramadan members of the Teachers First team visited the orphanage to spend time with the children and the house mothers. The orphanage provides a much need refuge for children and mothers providing stability, comfort and an opportunity to access education. One of the house mothers shared her story with us.
“I am originally from the suburbs, then I moved to Cairo to finish my degree in Cairo University and improve my life, but I didn’t find a place to stay in. I felt lost alone and had nowhere to sleep. I was lucky enough to become one of the house mothers at this wonderful orphanage. Every day I get to help the children and I hope to inspire them to continue with their education so they are never put in my position”
The day was filled with fun activities and the smile on the children’s faces where the only reward the team needed.
